Polk County Polk County

If your family enjoys theme parks and outdoor adventures they can pick from the cream of the crop! Polk County is centrally located to many local attractions. It is 35 minutes from Walt Disney World, 40 minutes from Universal Studios, 60 minutes from the Gulf and Atlantic beaches and a little bit further down the road is Kennedy Space Center within 75 minutes.

Historically phosphate mining, agriculture and tourism have been the leading industries in the county. The United States is ranked 3rd in the world’s largest producer of phosphate with Florida being the primary contributor. The mining of phosphate helped in their agriculture production of citrus groves in which they were once the leading producer.  The supermarket chain Publix headquarters are stationed in Lakeland and are a top employer for the area. The median income is reported at $48,475 while property values come in at $175,000. The ratio between an individual’s income and home values is much smaller than the rest of the counties and even the state. This makes the ability to own a house more feasible when looking at finances to get a mortgage.

If you are looking to buy a new house, relocate, move out of state or even retire you should consider Florida. The Sunshine state has something to offer everyone. There is always great shopping and dining options to meet anyone’s taste and style. Young adults and singles can enjoy the nightlife with highly rated clubs. Families and kids have countless theme parks, museums, outdoor adventures and entertainment options year-round. And the seniors, they have the most to gain. To start, active adult and retirement communities are popping up everywhere. These communities are great if you are an empty nester or if you are looking to retire but not ready to slow down just yet. The weather is phenomenal, during the summer temperature highs average 81 degrees with occasional showers help keeping it cool and winters average 60 degrees. This is desirable for the aging as arthritis and regulating body temperature become a concern. Specialized health care and accessible living is more common since the population is heavy with seniors. An added bonus is that there is no income tax, inheritance tax or estate tax.

No matter what stage of life you are in, Florida is a great place to consider calling home.
